Sunscreen, sunglasses, a valid photo ID, towels, plenty of water, and snacks or a cooler with food and drinks. Wear comfortable clothing and non-marking shoes or sandals with straps. Don’t forget a waterproof phone case or dry bag for your electronics.
Safety comes first. If conditions are unsafe for boating, your trip will be rescheduled or refunded. Operators monitor weather closely and will contact you in advance if conditions require a change. Light rain typically does not cancel trips — only severe weather or dangerous seas.
You must be at least 18 years old with a valid photo ID to rent a boat or jet ski, though some operators require 21+. With a valid Florida Boating Safety Education ID Card, operators as young as 14 may drive the vessel. Children welcome as passengers with an adult.
In Florida, anyone born on or after January 1, 1988 is required to have a Florida Boating Safety Education ID Card to operate a motorized vessel. You can obtain this by completing an approved online course. If you don’t have one, choose a captained rental where a licensed captain handles the driving.
No prior experience required for most rentals. Operators provide a safety briefing and basic instruction before you head out. If you’d rather relax, choose a captained rental — a licensed captain handles everything while you enjoy the ride.
